The tour around Strakonice can begin at the bus and railway station in the southern part of the town. The route passes the roundabout with a bagpipe gifted (map location) to the town by a deputy mayor Pavel Pavel. Going along the Ellerova street and later on over the bridge you get to the town historical centre. On the left side there are sport facilities – a winter stadium and a swimming pool. Behind the bridge on the left you can see a stone imitation of Stonehenge (map location).Turning left at the traffic lights you get to the Big Square with a lot of interesting buildings.

From the square you can go up the Na Stráži street and reach the Renner´s Gardens with the Classicist arbour (map location) and the monument to Jan Hus (map location).

If you are interested, it is possible to make a one-hour excursion to the Strakonice brewery (map location). It has kept its tradition since 1649, nowadays it produces beer Dudák Švanda.

A nice walk around the town can continue in a quiet zone along the Otava river called Podskalí. On this 3 km long track you can see a boat hire, a replica of the moai statue (map location), a place of F. L. Čelakovský´s work called „U Ládíčka“ (map location) or Kání vrch attended by a legend of the Strakonice bagpiper. Along the way on Podskalí you get to the third courtyard of the Strakonice Castle rising on the confluence of the rivers Otava and Volyňka.

This pride of the town was founded in the 13th century. Other interesting sights include the Church of St. Margaret or a picturesque Palacký square. The dominant of Palacký square is the Baroque Marian´s column (map location) originally built around 1586 to commemorate the plague epidemics.

From this square you come to the new Palach´s bridge over the Otava river finished in 1977. The blue or yellow tourist mark can take you to the Bezděkovská street. In this street you pass the statue of a Strakonice native – F. L. Čelakovský (map location) and an interesting building called Husův sbor. Following the street and crosssing a little park you return to the bus and railway station.
